Cutting Up The Brain – No Ouch!

Posted by: michael  :  Category: Uncategorized

Your brain receives, analyses and interprets information gathered by the senses, but it does not itself have any sensors. It lacks the types of sensory neurons (nerve cells) that, for example, enable the skin, mouth, ears and muscles to collect and convey sensory information. That means the actual brain (the brain after protective coverings have been removed) can’t feel anything no matter how it is treated. As an illustration, patients can be kept awake while areas of their brain are identified and removed (if necessary) without them feeling any pain.
