Honesty – The Shortcut To Unpopularity!

Here’s an invitation to take a scary journey – it’s a journey to a little known state called honesty and you’ll have to travel alone through hostile territory.

I should warn you that most of your friends and relations will disown you and your relationships will be tested and may well fall apart.

Chinese philosopher Lao Tse wrote “The snow goose need not bathe to make itself white. Neither need you do anything but be yourself.” Of course, very few of us actually follow that advice since we have trouble working out who we are.

So who are you? When you speak are the words truly yours? What I mean is are you speaking the truth – the reality as you see it – or some version designed to placate or please the recipient.

Are you simply saying what you imagine is appropriate in the particular circumstances or are you speaking the truth as you see it. In other words, stating what is rather than what you think is expected.

The problem we have is that we have found from experience that often the truth may not be well received and elicit responses designed to make you feel a real bastard. So may be the easiest way is simply to tell people what you think they want to hear. Now isn’t that so peaceful, safe and comforting – why don’t I make a habit of that. And we do!

On the surface it may appear as a win-win situation. But, of course, there’s no such thing as a free lunch!  You cannot change reality – what is – without it extracting a price. The price is your freedom. You become locked in a world in which you monitor  everything before you speak. Freedom is replaced by stress and stress kills.

There’s a massive special discount on tickets for the journey. And the rewards are literally life-saving  - if you’ve the courage to take it.
